What's the best lure for freshwater bass in Florida, this time of year, that's easy for a beginner to learn?

I've only fished with live bait and don't know how to work the different lures but would like the option to use one now and then, if I knew how and which had the best chance of a bite. The one's I've tried in my friend's lake have come back covered in

Wow, I hope I can answer all these. First off I live in central Florida and have fished the Harris Chain of lakes for many years as well as others.

At this time of year as the water is cooling, it;s best to start slowing down your presentation.

Aliyah, the youngest at four years old, had been asking to go fishing ever since I started cleaning the boat up since bringing it out of winter storage.

Collin, the oldest, went through an anti-fishing phase and was again into it.

At eight, Abigail was right in the middle of the anti-fishing phase. "I don't want to go," was her response when told of our plans.

Fishing started out a little slow off Pottohawk Point in Long Point Bay. Collin caught the first fish, which we decided was a little small. Then I reeled in one that was definitely going in the live well at nine inches. Abigail kept the increasing-size trend going, adding part of an inch in length to my fish.

We moved in a little closer to shore with two fish in the live well and now had three children intent on adding more to the catch.

We started out drifting. It didn't take long to find the fish and drop the anchor. My wife Karen pulled in the biggest fish so far and the bite was on. Determined to see Aliyah catch a fish, I helped her hook one. There is nothing like the kind of excitement when she pulled that fish in.

I had the good luck to go fishing last Saturday morning. This was a good thing... but after a short time I ran out of live bait. I was sitting there deciding what I was going to do about bait.  Then over to the side I saw a cottonmouth with a frog in his mouth. Frogs are good bass bait. Knowing the snake couldn't bite me with the frog in his mouth I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket.
